Royal Thai Massage in Bangkok

นวดราชสำนัก · The original court massage of Siam · 60/90/120 min · Heavena Wellness

What is Royal Thai Massage?

Royal Thai Massage (นวดราชสำนัก) — also called “court massage” — is the original form of Thai bodywork developed for the Siamese royal court during the Rattanakosin era. Unlike the more familiar street-style Thai massage, the royal tradition forbids contact with the head (out of reverence for the seat of the soul) and uses only fingers, palms, and forearms — never elbows, knees, or feet on the body. The result is a precise, controlled, deeply restorative treatment.

Who benefits most from Royal Thai?

Royal Thai Massage suits guests who want a traditional Thai experience without the more intense stretching of Wat Pho style. Particularly good for: first-time Thai massage visitors, guests with lower back or shoulder tension from desk work or travel, those with reduced mobility who cannot accommodate deep stretching, anyone who finds modern sports-style massage too aggressive.

What to expect at Heavena

Your therapist will begin with a warm welcome ritual — tamarind juice, cold towel, and a quiet introduction to your treatment plan. You will change into our prepared Thai loose cotton attire. The treatment takes place on a traditional padded floor mat in a private treatment room. Royal Thai uses rhythmic pressing along the body’s sen (energy lines) for the full duration. Light incense, soft instrumental music. After the treatment, herbal tea service in the lounge.

Frequently asked questions

How is Royal Thai Massage different from standard Thai massage?

Royal Thai uses only palms, fingers, and forearms — never elbows, knees, or feet. The therapist also does not touch the head. The pressure is more controlled and the pace more meditative.

Should I eat before a Royal Thai treatment?

Eat lightly 1-2 hours before. Heavy meals immediately before any Thai massage can cause discomfort during the work along the abdomen and chest.

Will it hurt?

Royal Thai is significantly less intense than Wat Pho style or sports massage. You may feel firm pressure on sen lines but no aggressive stretches. We adjust pressure to your comfort throughout.

How often can I come?

For wellness maintenance, every 1-2 weeks is ideal. For specific tension or recovery, every 5-7 days for 3-4 sessions, then maintain.
